Hollis-Brookline High School Robotics Team Qualifies for World Championship in Detroit

Recently, The Force Team attended the New England District Championship at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) on April 10th through the 13th, along with sixty-three other teams from across New England. At this event, we implemented a new feature that allowed us to score more points. This addition diversified our robot’s abilities. We were, however, recognized for also integrating a defensive strategy on the field, an uncommon feat taken on by FRC teams during the design phase. Our powerful drivetrain prevented our robot from being shoved by opposing teams and allowed for us to push them across the field to prevent them from scoring points. For more information about the game’s structure, visit FIRSTInspires.org.

After using the defensive strategy, The Force Team had ranked thirty-sixth out of the competing sixty-four teams at the event. Throughout the New England District Championship, we worked hard to earn the Safety Award, sponsored by Underwriters Laboratories, and the Entrepreneurship Award, sponsored by Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers. Not only have we earned the Safety Award at least once every year for the past five years, but have consecutively earned this award at every competition we’ve attended this year. With the addition of these two awards, Team 1073 became ranked 22 out of the 203 New England FRC teams.

Our performance qualified the team to attend the FIRST® World Championship in Detroit, Michigan along with teams not only from across the United States, but from across the world. This will be the fourth consecutive year Team 1073 has been invited to Worlds. The competition starts on April 24th, 2019 until the 27th. Stay updated with our progress on thebluealliance.com to support the team.
